Zambia Wins the Final of the ICC-Africa Division 3 Championship – Johannesburg 2012

Zambia has taken out the final of the ICC Africa Division 3, beating Gambia by 98 runs. Playing on Field ‘A’ of the Sahara Park Willowmoore Stadium, Zambia batted first and scored 185 for the loss of 7 wickets. A. Nsenshaled the scoring with a quick-fire79 off 60 balls. The leading wicket takers were A. Conteh(2-24) and A. Jarju(2-24 in four overs). Chasing the high target, Gambia was not able to produce any big scores, and was all out for 87. Taking wickets for Zambia was S. Sopariya, who took 3 wickets for 26 runs, and I. Patel, who displayed some tight bowling to take 3 wickets for 9 runs.

Following the elective Annual General Meeting held at Kabwe Cricket Club on 3rd December 2011 in Kabwe, the following are the members of the Executive Committee for a four-year tenure:

CCA, MCA, and ZCDCA should accordingly inform all their affiliates.I want once again, to reiterate what I stated in my speech at the AGM, that my Executive will have an open door policy in the management of the great game of cricket in the country. In the same vein cricket administrators will have a role to play in how the game of cricket should be managed when we constitute various sub-committees. I therefore urge you all to be ready and serve on these sub-committees.The great game of cricket should not only be played in Lusaka and the Copperbelt, but introduced, developed and played in all provinces.Communication with ICC, ACA and NSCZ on cricket matters will be done through my Executive Committee.

My Executive will always be in touch with the affiliates by letting service light the way through participation and involvement by everyone.

ZCU Hands out Cricket Starter Kits to Copperbelt Schools

ZCU’s Interim President, Mr Reuben Chama, speech on the 17th September 2011, at the Nkana Cricket Club – Kitwe

On behalf of my Executive Committee, I wish to state that today is a joyous occassion, as we are now laying a foundation for the youth in cricket development.

As Zambia Cricket Union, our development stragegy is to target the youth in both private and government schools throughout the country, and introduce criket so that it is played as an intergral part of physical education / sporting activities. As the game will be developing we shall, through Provincial or Regional Associaitions, draw up inter-town fixtures.

I would likt to urge the recipients of the cricket equipment to closely liaise with the Copperbelt Cricket Association throught the Cricket Development Officiers in each town, so that this program is a success.

Before i hand over the cricket equipment, I would like to thank World Vision for donating this equipment to the Zambia Cricket Union in thier contribution to support our development programs.

As you are all aware, the future of any sport lies in it’s youth. Once again, a big thank you to World Vision for thier support.

RE-ORGANISATION OF ZAMBIA CRICKET UNION

The Zambia Cricket Union interim committee was constituted by the National Sports Council of Zambia on 16^th July 2011, and the following are members:

Our tenure of office is for 90 days, in which period we have to review and amend the current ZCU constitution in readiness for the AGM, which has been tentatively set for 15^th October, 2011 in Kabwe.

ZCU will be donating cricket equipment to schools on the Copperbelt on 17^th September 2011 and Lusaka Province on 24^thSeptember 2011.

This is our development strategy to introduce Cricket in schools so that Cricket is played as an integral part of Physical Education / Sports activities. As the game is developing, we shall grow up through the Provincial Associations inter-schools and inter-towns fixtures.
